āBefore I started working with Katja, I felt stuck, needing to realign. I had a desire to record an album, and wanted to get my voice back in shape. Despite being technically skilled through studies in many vocal methodologies, I didnāt know how I wanted to sound anymore. I was looking for a sound that was more connected ā reflecting more of me. ā£I was also suffering from imposter syndrome, which was holding me back both in my singing and teaching.ā£
Through working with Katja in 1:1 coaching and in her program Sing From The Source, things started shifting on many levels. I reconnected with playfulness, and that spread out to areas in my whole life.ā£ My singing became gentler, more expressive and dynamic. I found my own sound that was aligned with the stories I wanted to tell. My vocal range expanded, and singing started feeling much easier and more connected.ā£
My creative flow exploded and I ended up writing not just one, but TWO albums, that I now feel confident bringing to the recording studio! Through the coaching, I learned to fully embrace my identity as a rock and metal vocalist, which helped me expand my artistry, and let go of my limiting beliefs around teaching.ā£”

- Feel like you have plateaued in your singing or teaching.
…I see you. And I’ve been there.

Lost in technique
After I had graduated from music university, I still felt limited in my vocal technique and artistic expression. So I embarked on a vocal learning quest, that took me to study several modern vocal methods.
While I got more and more knowledge on how the voice works, a suitcase full of “technique fixes”, and was now able to do lots of cool things with my voice, I couldn’t help feeling I was drifting further and further away from something essential. After the initial excitement about having found what I thought I was looking for in a vocal method, it all started feeling very rigid. The approaches to learning were mainly technical-intellectual. Every modern vocal method told me there was a map to the voice, but it was their map with their vocabulary.
There was no room for true awareness and true integration of all the parts that make up your voice – beyond your lungs, larynx and vocal tract, which is what most vocal methods are focused on – let alone creativity, playfulness, building your own map and using your own words, which are perhaps one of the most important aspects of learning (as you’ll find out when you join classes).
Surely there had to be another way to learning and practicing singing!

Finding back to your Source
Being a lifelong learner, I continued studying different approaches of working with the voice, and ventured beyond vocal pedagogy into other fields that I was passionate about, including meditation, mindfulness, somatic approaches, mindful learning, metaphysics and energetics, while also learning more about how to transform limiting mindset, and more.
I began integrating what I was learning with all the anatomical-physiological vocal technique knowledge I had from before, and with the work I was doing as a creativity coach, a singer in a vocal improvisation group and teacher of music interpretation at a music university.
Working with the voice became fun and exciting again, speaking to all parts of me and not just the technical-intellectual part. I felt I was finding back to my Source as a singer, performer and teacher.
The singers I worked with started having breakthroughs beyond just vocal technique – in awareness, practice, performance and creativity.
They told me they found back the joy of singing, learning and practicing again.
They told me they found a piece of heaven for their singer soul and learned more than they expected.
They told me this work has completely turned their life around.
Singers I had worked with had been celebrating results with me prior to this too, when I was teaching from a “modern vocal method focus” – but this was different. This was more profound.
Together with a mentor, I began mapping out what I was actually doing when I was teaching voice. And that’s how the Sing From The Source approach got its elements and its name.
More about the Sing From The Source approach
Read about the pillars of this work

“I have a Bachelor of Music in classical voice and have been a vocal performance coach and professional singer myself for about fifteen years, so I know my way around my voice (and voices in general) in many ways. However I had a few lingering bad habits in my own singing that Iād never addressed and techniques Iād never solidified from when I first started formal singing training as a teenager that I felt were really holding me back, especially as I started work on a fairly ambitious original vocal project.
I sought Katjaās help to re-establish the basics and to explore the limits of my vocal capabilities. I got SO much out of my work with Katja ā my sessions with her were the highlight of my week.
Katja blows me away with her breadth of knowledge not only of the voice itself, but also a variety of vocal pedagogies. I canāt imagine a situation where she wouldnāt be able to meet a learner at their individual point of need, as she draws on a very extensive range of experience and can reframe concepts in different ways until it sinks in. I really canāt recommend Katja highly enough!ā

āIf you are looking for a place to get back in connection with your art & creativity, this is the place to be! Working with Katja has helped me to place focus on myself, my voice and my creative work again in a playful way, check in with my voice and work daily, and to find joy again in working on my own voice next to a full teaching load. It has offered me a change of perspective on my own singing in sound, embodiment and storytelling. I got back in connection with voice work, found focus and tools to balance teaching and creative work, and was able to dive deeper in my creative message.ā

āBefore working with Katja, I was restricting my natural voice, getting stuck in a box and trying too hard to control the voice. Now I am really excited to trust my voice and to explore new parts of my voice with compassion. I am approaching singing with more curiosity instead of fear. I am enjoying singing again!
As a coach, Katja is present, intuitive, knowledgeable, supportive, kind and thoughtful. She creates a healthy and safe environment, and any singer looking to develop with a brilliant and compassionate teacher would benefit from working with her.ā
